サーヴァッティーにて。ラーフラは傍らに座し、世尊に申し上げた。「尊師よ、いかに知り、いかに見れば、この識ある身において、また外なる一切の相において、我作・我所作・慢の心が除かれ、諸々の戯論を超越して、寂静にして善く解脱することができるのでしょうか。」「ラーフラよ、いかなる種類の色も——過去・未来・現在、内なるもの・外なるもの、粗大なるもの・微細なるもの、劣なるもの・勝れたるもの、遠なるもの・近なるもの——その一切の色を、正しき智慧をもって如実に観ずるがよい。『これは我がものにあらず、我はこれにあらず』と。」
