サーヴァッティーにて。かの尊者ラーダは阿羅漢の境地を証得された方であった。そのとき尊者ラーダは仏陀のもとへ参じ……こうお尋ね申し上げた。「世尊よ、いかように知り、いかように見れば、この識ある身においても、外なるすべての相においても、我執・我所執・慢随眠が生じなくなるのでございましょうか」と。
「ラーダよ、いかなる種類の色も——過去・未来・現在のもの、内なるもの・外なるもの、粗大なるもの・微細なるもの、劣なるもの・勝れたるもの、遠きもの・近きもの——あらゆる色を、正しい智慧をもって『これは我がものにあらず、我はこれにあらず……』と如実に観るのである。
