At Sāvatthī. choices … consciousness, sentient beings wouldn’t be aroused by it. But since there is gratification in consciousness, sentient beings are aroused by it. If consciousness had no drawback, sentient beings wouldn’t grow disillusioned with it. But since consciousness has a drawback, sentient beings do grow disillusioned with it. If there were no escape from consciousness, sentient beings wouldn’t escape from it. But since there is an escape from consciousness, sentient beings do escape
舎衛城にて。……識に喜びがなければ、衆生はそれに魅了されることはないであろう。しかるに識には喜びがあるがゆえに、衆生はそれに魅了されるのである。識に過患がなければ、衆生はそれに厭離することはないであろう。しかるに識には過患があるがゆえに、衆生はそれに厭離するのである。識からの出離がなければ、衆生はそれより出離することはないであろう。しかるに識には出離があるがゆえに、衆生はそれより出離するのである。
