At Sāvatthī. There Sāriputta addressed the mendicants: “Reverends, mendicants!” “Reverend,” they replied. Sāriputta said this: “Just now, reverends, as I was in private retreat this thought came to mind: ‘Is there anything in the world whose decay and perishing would give rise to sorrow, lamentation, pain, sadness, and distress in me?’ It occurred to me: ‘There is nothing in the world whose decay and perishing would give rise to sorrow, lamentation, pain, sadness, and distress in me.’” When he s
舎衛城にて。そこで舎利弗は諸々の比丘たちに呼びかけた。「尊き友よ、比丘たちよ。」「尊き友よ」と、彼らは答えた。舎利弗はかく語った。「尊き友よ、先ほど私が独り閑居して坐していたとき、このような思いが心に浮かびました。『この世において、その衰滅と消逝が、我が心に愁・悲・苦・憂・悩を生じさせるようなものが、果たして存在するであろうか』と。そして私にはこのことが明らかとなりました。『この世において、その衰滅と消逝が、我が心に愁・悲・苦・憂・悩を生じさせるようなものは、何一つ存在しない』と。」彼がこのように語ったとき――
