At Sāvatthī. “Mendicants, suppose there were four well-trained expert archers with strong bows standing in the four quarters. And a man came along and thought, ‘When these four well-trained expert archers shoot arrows in four quarters, I’ll catch them before they reach the ground, and then I’ll bring them back.’ What do you think, mendicants? Are they qualified to be called ‘a speedster endowed with super-speed’?” “If he could catch an arrow shot by just one well-trained expert archer before it
サーヴァッティーにて。「比丘たちよ、たとえば四方にそれぞれ一人ずつ、弓の達者な熟練した射手が、強弓を携えて立っているとしよう。そこへある男がやって来て、こう思うのだ。『これら四人の熟練した射手が四方に向けて矢を放つとき、その矢が地に落ちる前に、わしはこれを捕まえ、また持ち帰ってみせよう』と。比丘たちよ、これをどう思うか。このような者は、『超速の神足を具えた疾足の者』と呼ぶに値するであろうか」と。「一人の熟練した射手が放った矢でさえ、それが地に落ちる前に捕まえることができるならば——」
