So I have heard. “Reverend Mark, it’s the wrong time for this question. Ask me when we’re in the Buddha’s presence.” At one time the Buddha was staying near Rājagaha, in the Bamboo Grove, the squirrels’ feeding ground. Now at that time Venerable Mark and Venerable Mahāmoggallāna were staying on the Vulture’s Peak Mountain. Then Mahāmoggallāna robed up in the morning and, taking his bowl and robe, went to Mark and said to him, “Come, Reverend Mark, let’s enter Rājagaha for alms.” “Yes, reverend,”
かくの如く我聞けり。「尊者マルカよ、今はその問いを発すべき時にあらず。世尊の御前にてお尋ねなさるがよい。」あるとき、世尊は王舎城の近く、竹林精舎、栗鼠の餌場のほとりに滞在しておられた。そのとき、尊者マルカと尊者摩訶目犍連は鷲の峰山に滞在していた。やがて摩訶目犍連は早朝に衣を整え、鉢と衣を携えてマルカのもとに赴き、こう告げた。「さあ、尊者マルカよ、共に王舎城へ托鉢に参りましょう。」「然り、尊者よ、」
