舎衛城にて。「このように修行すべきである」と。「財利・名誉・称讃は、厳しく、苦く、激しいものである。それらは、くびきより最上の安穏に達することへの障碍である。ある者の心を明察したとき、私はかく了解する。『この尊者は、母のためであっても、故意に妄語を語ることはないであろう』と。しかるに、その後に、財利・名誉・称讃によって心が圧倒され征服された故に、故意の妄語を語るその者を、私は目にする。かくも、財利・名誉・称讃は厳しく恐ろしいものである」。
