その頃、阿闍世王子は夜明けと夕暮れの折に五百台の車を連ねて提婆達多のもとに参向し、五百人分の食を供養として捧げておられた。
そのとき、数人の比丘たちが世尊のもとへ赴き、礼拝して傍らに座し、こう申し上げた。「世尊よ、阿闍世王子は夜明けと夕暮れの折に五百台の車を連ねて提婆達多のもとに参向し、五百人分の食を供養として捧げております。」
