舎衛城にて。財利・名誉・称讃によって心を征服され、圧倒された者は、他の善き心を持つ比丘たちを見下す。これは彼らにとって、長きにわたる損害と苦しみとなるであろう。かくも恐ろしきものなり、財利・名誉・称讃は……「財利・名誉・称讃は恐ろしきものなり……」譬えば、糞を食らう甲虫が、糞に満ち、糞で身を膨らませ、その眼前に巨大な糞の山があるとせよ。彼女は他の甲虫たちを見下し、かく思うであろう——「我こそは糞に満ち、糞で身を膨らませたる糞食の甲虫なり」と。
