サーヴァッティーにて。「比丘たちよ、そなたたちはどう思うか。いかなる比丘が檀家を訪うに値し、いかなる比丘が値しないのか」「われらの教えは仏陀を根本とし……」と。世尊はこのように説かれた。
「施しがなかなかなされぬときに……あるいは不注意になされるときに、軽んじられたと感じ、そのために苦しみと悲しみを覚えるような思いをもって檀家を訪う比丘は、檀家を訪うに値しない者である。『願わくは施しをなしてほしい、施しをなさぬことのないように……』
