舎衛城にて。「比丘たちよ、もし地界がただ苦のみであり――苦に浸り苦に染まり、楽に染まることなければ――衆生はそれに染着することなかろう。しかるに地界は楽なるがゆえに――楽に浸り楽に染まり、苦に染まることなければ――衆生はそれに染着するのである。水界もまた然り……火界もまた然り……風界もまた然り……もし地界がひとえに楽のみであり――楽に浸り楽に染まり、苦に染まることなければ――衆生はそれより離れようとは欲しなかろう……」
