At Sāvatthī. “Mendicants, I will teach you the origin and disappearance of suffering. Listen and apply your mind well, I will speak.” “Yes, sir,” they replied. The Buddha said this: “And what, mendicants, is the origin of suffering? Eye consciousness arises dependent on the eye and sights. The meeting of the three is contact. Contact is a requirement for feeling. Feeling is a requirement for craving. … This is the origin of suffering. Ear consciousness arises dependent on the ear and sounds. … N
舎衛城にて。「比丘たちよ、我は今、苦の生起と滅尽を説かん。よく聴き、心して聞くべし。我、今より語らん。」「然り、世尊よ」と、彼らは答えた。仏陀はかく説きたまえり。
「では比丘たちよ、苦の生起とは何ぞや。眼と色とに縁りて眼識が生ず。この三者の和合が触なり。触は受の縁となり、受は愛の縁となる。……これが苦の生起なり。耳と声とに縁りて耳識が生ず。……」
