At one time Venerable Ānanda was staying near Vesālī in the little village of Beluva. Now at that time the householder Dasama, a wealthy citizen, had arrived at Pāṭaliputta on some business. 時に、尊者アーナンダはヴェーサーリーの近く、ベールヴァという小村に滞在しておられた。その頃、富裕なる在家信者ダサマ長者が、ある用向きのためパータリプッタに到着した。そこで長者ダサマは尊者アーナンダに向かって、かくのごとく申し上げた。
「尊者アーナンダよ、たとえばある人が宝蔵への入り口を求めていたとしましょう。そして突然、一度に十一の入り口を見出したとしたならば、いかがでしょうか。それと同じように、私は不死への門を探し求めておりました。そして今や、一度に十一の門を見出したのでございます」
