So I have heard. At one time the Buddha was wandering in the land of the Kosalans together with a large Saṅgha of mendicants. While walking along the road, at a certain spot he saw a great mass of fire burning, blazing, and glowing. 私はこのように聞いた。あるとき、世尊はコーサラ国において、多くの比丘の僧伽とともに遊行されていた。道を歩まれる途中、ある場所にて、燃え盛り、炎を上げ、赤々と輝く大きな火の塊をご覧になった。これをご覧になった世尊は、道を離れ、ある樹の根元に座を設えて坐られ、比丘たちに告げられた。「比丘たちよ、汝らはあの燃え盛り、炎を上げ、赤々と輝く大きな火の塊が見えるか。」「はい、世尊よ。」「比丘たちよ、我はこれを汝らに告げ、これを汝らに宣言しよう。
