Then Venerable Sāriputta robed up in the morning and, taking his bowl and robe, entered Sāvatthī for alms. Then it occurred to him, “It’s too early to wander for alms in Sāvatthī. Why don’t I visit the monastery of the wanderers of other religions?” Then he went to the monastery of the wanderers of other religions and exchanged greetings with the wanderers there. 時に、尊者サーリプッタは早暁に衣を整え、鉢と袈裟を携えて、托鉢のためサーヴァッティーに入ろうとした。するとその心に、「サーヴァッティーにて托鉢して回るにはいまだ時刻が早い。いっそ外道遊行者たちの僧院を訪ねてみてはどうか」という思いが起こった。そこで彼はその外道遊行者たちの僧院へと赴き、そこにいた遊行者たちと挨拶を交わした。挨拶と礼儀ある言葉が交わされ終わると、彼は一方の座に着いた。さてそのとき、かの外道遊行者たちは——
