And then the wanderer Moḷiyasīvaka went up to the Buddha, and exchanged greetings with him. 遊行者モーリヤシーヴァカはそのとき仏陀のもとへと赴き、丁重なる挨拶を交わした。挨拶と礼儀の言葉が終わると、彼は傍らに座して仏陀にこう申し上げた。「世尊よ、『現世において明らかなる教え』と説かれておりますが、いかなる意味において、その教えは現世に明らかであり、即座に効験をあらわし、来たりて見よと招き、己れに関わるものとして、智慧ある者が自ら知ることができると申すのでしょうか。」「ならばシーヴァカよ、わたしはこのことについて汝に問い返すとしよう。汝は思うがままに答えるがよい。」
