Ekaṁ samayaṁ bhagavā kimilāyaṁ viharati veḷuvane. Atha kho āyasmā kimilo yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṁ abhivādetvā ekamantaṁ nisīdi. Ekamantaṁ nisinno kho āyasmā kimilo bhagavantaṁ etadavoca: “ko nu kho, bhante, hetu ko paccayo, yena tathāgate parinibbute saddhammo na ciraṭṭhitiko hotī”ti? “Idha, kimila, tathāgate parinibbute bhikkhū bhikkhuniyo upāsakā upāsikāyo satthari agāravā viharanti appatissā, dhamme agāravā viharanti appatissā, saṅghe agāravā viharanti appatissā,

あるとき、世尊はキンビラーの近く、清水の紅樹林に滞在されていた。そこへ尊者キンビラーが世尊のもとへ近づき、礼拝して一方に座し、こう申し上げた。「尊師よ、如来の般涅槃の後、正法が長く住しない原因とは何でしょうか、その理由とは何でしょうか。」「キンビラーよ、それは如来の般涅槃の後、比丘・比丘尼・優婆塞・優婆夷たちが、師・法・僧伽・戒律、そして互いに対して、敬意と尊崇の念を欠くときである。
