“Mendicants, there are these five who dwell at the root of a tree. What five? One may dwell at the root of a tree because of stupidity … corrupt wishes … madness … because it is praised by the Buddhas … or for the sake of having few wishes … These are the five who dwell at the root of a tree.”
「比丘たちよ、樹下に住する者には五種類がある。その五とは何か。愚痴ゆえに樹下に住する者あり……邪欲ゆえに樹下に住する者あり……狂乱ゆえに樹下に住する者あり……諸仏に讃嘆されたるがゆえに樹下に住する者あり……あるいは少欲のために樹下に住する者あり……これらが樹下に住する五種の者である。」
