“Mendicants, a lay follower with five qualities is placed in hell as if delivered there. What five? They kill living creatures, steal, commit sexual misconduct, lie, and consume beer, wine, and liquor intoxicants. A lay follower with these five qualities is placed in hell as if delivered there. A lay follower with five qualities is placed in heaven as if delivered there. What five? They don’t kill living creatures, steal, commit sexual misconduct, lie, or consume beer, wine, and liquor intoxican
「比丘たちよ、五つの性質を具えた在家信者は、まるで運び込まれたかのごとく地獄に堕ちる。その五つとは何か。生き物を殺め、盗みを働き、邪淫を犯し、妄語を言い、そして穀物酒・果実酒・蒸留酒などの放逸の因となる諸々の酒類を飲む、これである。これら五つの性質を具えた在家信者は、まるで運び込まれたかのごとく地獄に堕ちる。五つの性質を具えた在家信者は、まるで運び込まれたかのごとく天界に生まれる。その五つとは何か。生き物を殺めず、盗みを働かず、邪淫を犯さず、妄語を言わず、そして穀物酒・果実酒・蒸留酒などの放逸の因となる諸々の酒類を飲まない、これである。」
