At one time the Buddha was staying near Sāketa, in Tikaṇḍakī Wood. There the Buddha addressed the mendicants, “Mendicants!” “Venerable sir,” they replied. かつて、仏陀はサーケータ近郊のティカンダキー林に滞在されていた。そこで仏陀は比丘たちに呼びかけられた。「比丘たちよ。」「世尊よ」と、彼らは答えた。仏陀はこのように説かれた。「比丘たちよ、比丘は時に応じて、以下のように観じながら修行に励むべきである。すなわち、可愛なるものの中に不浄を観じ、不浄なるものの中に可愛を観じ、可愛なるものと不浄なるものの両者の中に不浄を観じ、不浄なるものと可愛なるものの両者の中に可愛を観じること。比丘たちよ、比丘はかくのごとく観じながら修行に励むべきである。
