“Mendicants, a royal bull elephant with five factors is worthy of a king, fit to serve a king, and is reckoned a factor of kingship. What five? A royal bull elephant listens, destroys, protects, endures, and goes fast. And how does a mendicant destroy? It’s when a mendicant doesn’t tolerate a sensual, malicious, or cruel thought. They don’t tolerate any bad, unskillful qualities that have arisen, but give them up, get rid of them, calm them, eliminate them, and obliterate them. That’s how a mend
比丘たちよ、五つの要素を備えた王の牡象は、王に仕えるにふさわしく、王の資産とみなされる。その五つとは何か。王の牡象は、聴従し、破壊し、守護し、忍耐し、そして速やかに進む。では、比丘はいかにして破壊するのか。比丘が、欲情の思い、瞋恚の思い、残忍の思いを容認せず、生じたるいかなる不善の法をも容認せず、これを捨て、除き、静め、滅し、消滅させる。これが比丘の破壊する所以である。
