“Mendicants, even if a monk is of impeccable character, he might be suspected and distrusted as a ‘bad monk’ for five reasons. What five? It’s when a monk resorts to prostitutes, widows, voluptuous girls, eunuchs, or nuns for alms. Even if a monk is of impeccable character, he might be suspected and distrusted as a ‘bad monk’ for these five reasons.”
「比丘たちよ、たとえ戒行清浄なる比丘であっても、五つの因縁によって『悪比丘』と疑われ、不信を招くことがある。いかなる五つか。比丘が遊女のもとへ、寡婦のもとへ、淫らなる娘のもとへ、黄門のもとへ、あるいは比丘尼のもとへと、托鉢に赴く場合である。たとえ戒行清浄なる比丘であっても、これら五つの因縁によって『悪比丘』と疑われ、不信を招くことがある。」
