Then Sikhāmoggallāna the brahmin went up to the Buddha, and exchanged greetings with him. 時に、バラモンのシカーモッガッラーナは世尊のもとへと赴き、世尊と挨拶を交わした。挨拶と礼儀ある言葉を交わし終えると、シカーモッガッラーナは傍らに座し、世尊に申し上げた。「尊き方ゴータマよ、数日前のこと、学人ソーナカーヤナが私のもとへ参り、こう申しました。『沙門ゴータマは、いかなる業をも為すことなかれと説く。かくして彼は世界の断滅を教えているのだ！』と。しかしながら、世界は業によって存在し、業が行われることによって世界は存続するのであります。」世尊は仰せられた。「バラモンよ、私はその学人ソーナカーヤナに会った記憶すら、いまだ持たぬのであるが……」
