Then Venerable Ānanda went up to Venerable Mahākoṭṭhita, and exchanged greetings with him. 時に、尊者アーナンダは尊者マハーコッティタのもとへと赴き、互いに挨拶を交わした。挨拶と儀礼の言葉が終わると、アーナンダは傍らに座し、マハーコッティタにこう申し述べた。「尊者よ、これらの問いを立てられた時、あなたは『そのような言い方はすべきではない』とおっしゃいます。……では、この言葉の意味をいかに理解すればよいのでしょうか。」「『六つの触の領域が余すところなく褪せ滅し尽きた後に、何か他のものが存在する』と言うことは、すなわち、戯論を超えたものを戯論化することに他なりません。……」
