“Mendicants, a royal bull elephant with four factors is worthy of a king, fit to serve a king, and is reckoned a factor of kingship. What four? A royal bull elephant listens, destroys, endures, and goes fast. And how does a mendicant go fast? It’s when a mendicant swiftly goes in the direction they’ve never gone before in all this long time; that is, the stilling of all activities, the letting go of all attachments, the ending of craving, fading away, cessation, extinguishment. 「比丘たちよ、四つの特質を備えた王の牡象は、王にふさわしく、王に仕えるに値し、王の象として数えられる。その四つとは何か。王の牡象は、よく聴き、よく破り、よく耐え、そして速やかに進む。では、比丘はいかにして速やかに進むのか。比丘が、この長きにわたって未だかつて赴いたことのない境地へと速やかに向かうとき、すなわち、一切の行の寂滅、一切の執着の放捨、渇愛の滅尽、離欲、滅、涅槃へと向かうとき、これを比丘が速やかに進むという。」
