So I have heard. At one time the Buddha was staying in the land of the Vajjis at Wares Village. There the Buddha addressed the mendicants, “Mendicants!” “Venerable sir,” they replied. The Buddha said this: “Mendicants, due to not understanding and not penetrating four things, both you and I have wandered and transmigrated for such a very long time. What four? Noble ethics, immersion, wisdom, and freedom. These noble ethics, immersion, wisdom, and freedom have been understood and comprehended. Cr
かくの如く、我れ聞けり。ある時、世尊はヴァッジ国のウェーサ村に御滞在であった。そこで世尊は比丘たちに告げられた。「比丘たちよ。」「世尊よ」と彼らは答えた。世尊はかく仰せられた。「比丘たちよ、四つのことを了解せず、また通達しなかったがゆえに、汝らも我れも、かくも長きにわたって流転輪廻してきたのである。いかなる四つか。聖なる戒、定、慧、そして解脱これなり。この聖なる戒、定、慧、そして解脱は、今や了解され、究明された。」
