“Mendicants, I will teach you the three excellent horses and the three excellent people. Listen and apply your mind well, I will speak.” “Yes, sir,” they replied. 「比丘たちよ、三種の優れた馬と三種の優れた人について説こう。よく耳を傾け、心して聞くがよい。」「はい、世尊よ」と彼らは答えた。仏陀はかくのごとく説かれた。
「三種の優れた馬とはいかなるものか。一番目の優れた馬は、速さを備えてはいるが、美しさも均整もない。二番目の優れた馬は、速さと美しさは備えているが、均整がない。そして三番目の優れた馬は、速さと美しさと均整のすべてを備えている。これが三種の優れた馬である。
