So I have heard. At one time the Buddha was wandering in the land of the Kosalans together with a large Saṅgha of mendicants when he arrived at a town of the Kālāmas named Kesamutta. The Kālāmas of Kesamutta heard: “It seems the ascetic Gotama—a Sakyan, gone forth from a Sakyan family—has arrived at Kesamutta. このように私は聞いた。あるとき、世尊は多くの比丘の僧伽とともにコーサラ国を遊行されていたおり、カーラーマ族の住む町、ケーサムッタに到着された。ケーサムッタのカーラーマたちはこう聞いた。「釈迦族の出身で、釈迦族の家を出家されたゴータマ沙門が、ケーサムッタにおいでになったとのこと。かの世尊についてはこのような名声が広まっている。『かの世尊は阿羅漢にして、正しく完全に覚られた仏陀なり……』このような阿羅漢にお目にかかれることは、まことに善いことである」と。「害悪であります、尊者よ」「瞋恚に満ちた人は、怒りに打ち克たれ、殺生を犯す……」
