At one time the Buddha was wandering in the land of the Kosalans together with a large Saṅgha of mendicants when he arrived at a village of the Kosalan brahmins named Venāgapura. The brahmins and householders of Venāgapura heard: “It seems the ascetic Gotama—a Sakyan, gone forth from a Sakyan family—has arrived at Venāgapura. 或る時、世尊はコーサラ国において、多くの比丘よりなる大きな僧伽を率いて遊行されていたが、やがてヴェーナーガプラというコーサラ国の婆羅門の村に到着された。ヴェーナーガプラの婆羅門たちと居士たちはこう耳にした。「かのサキャ族の出身にして、サキャ族の家より出家された沙門ゴータマが、ヴェーナーガプラに到着されたとのことである。かの世尊はこのような善き名声をお持ちである。『かの世尊は阿羅漢にして、正しく完全に目覚められた正等覚者、明行足、善逝、世間解、無上士、調御丈夫、天人師……』」と。
