“Mendicants, these three sectarian tenets—as pursued, pressed, and grilled by the astute—when taken to their conclusion, end with inaction. What three? 比丘たちよ、三つの外道の教義がある。それらは聡明な者によって追求され、問い詰められ、吟味されるとき、その結論において無為に帰着する。三つとはいかなるものか。
一部の沙門・婆羅門はかくのごとき教義・見解を持つ。「この個人が経験するすべてのもの、すなわち楽であれ、苦であれ、苦でも楽でもないものであれ、それはすべて過去の業によるものである」と。
また一部の沙門・婆羅門はかくのごとき教義・見解を持つ。「この個人が経験するすべてのもの、すなわち楽であれ、苦であれ、苦でも楽でもないものであれ、それはすべて全能なる神の創造によるものである」と。
