Then a brahmin went up to the Buddha, and exchanged greetings with him. Seated to one side he said to the Buddha: “Worthy Gotama, they speak of ‘a teaching apparent in the present life’. In what way is the teaching apparent in the present life, immediately effective, inviting inspection, relevant, so that sensible people can know it for themselves?” “A greedy person, overcome and overwhelmed by greed, intends to hurt themselves, hurt others, and hurt both. They experience mental pain and sadness
時に、一人のバラモンが仏陀のもとに近づき、丁寧に挨拶を交わした。傍らに座したバラモンは、仏陀にこう申し上げた。「尊き瞿曇よ、人々は『現世において明らかなる教え』と申します。いかなる意味において、その教えは現世に明らかであり、即時に効験を現じ、来たりて見よと招き、己に関わるものとして、智慧ある者が自らそれを知り得るのでございましょうか。」「貪りに囚われた者は、貪欲に征服され、貪欲に圧倒されて、自らを傷つけ、他者を傷つけ、その両者を傷つけようと意図する。その者は心の苦しみと悲嘆を経験する。
