「比丘たちよ、もし他の教えに従う遊行者たちが汝らに問うたとする。『尊者よ、汝らは天界に生まれ変わることを願って、沙門ゴータマのもとで梵行を歩んでいるのか』と。このように問われたならば、汝らは恐怖し、嫌悪し、厭離の念を抱くのではないか」
「はい、世尊よ、そのとおりでございます」
「されば、汝らは天上の寿命、天上の美貌、天上の安楽、天上の名声、天上の自在についても、恐怖し、嫌悪し、厭離の念を抱くのであろう。ならばなおのこと、身口意の悪しき行いについては、いかほど深く恐怖し、慚愧し、厭離の念を抱くべきであろうか」
