At Sāvatthī. Then King Ajātasattu of Magadha, son of the princess of Videha, mobilized an army of four divisions and marched to Kāsi to attack King Pasenadi of Kosala. 舎衛城にての事なり。時に、毘提希の子にして摩掲陀国の王たるアジャータサットゥは、四種の軍を整え、コーサラ国の王パセーナディに戦いを挑まんとして、迦尸の地へと進軍した。これを聞きおよびたるパセーナディ王もまた、四種の軍を整え、アジャータサットゥを迎え撃たんとして迦尸へと向かった。かくして両王は戦火を交え、その戦いにおいてアジャータサットゥはパセーナディを打ち破り、パセーナディ王は己が王都たる舎衛城へと退いた。そののち、数人の比丘たちが、朝早くに衣を整え、鉢と衣を携えて――
