At Sāvatthī. Now at that time King Pasenadi of Kosala was upstairs in the royal longhouse together with Queen Mallikā. Then the king said to the queen, “Mallikā, is there anyone more dear to you than yourself?” “No, great king, there isn’t. サーヴァッティーにおける物語。その頃、コーサラ国のパセーナディ王は、マッリカー妃とともに王宮の高殿におられた。そこで王は妃に向かってこう仰せになった。「マッリカーよ、そなたにとって、自分自身よりも愛しい者はおるか」と。「大王よ、おりませぬ。されど大王には、ご自身よりも愛しい方がおられますか」と妃は問い返した。「わしにとっても、マッリカーよ、そのような者はおらぬ」と王は答えられた。
