ダンマパダ 第26章 婆羅門品（偈396）
I don’t call someone a brahmin after the mother’s womb they’re born from. If they still have attachments, they’re just someone who says “worthy”. Having nothing, taking nothing: that’s who I declare a brahmin.
母の胎より生まれ出でたるをもって、われはその者を婆羅門とは呼ばず。もし執着なお残るならば、その者はただ「尊き者」と称するに過ぎぬ。何物をも持たず、何物をも取らぬ者――その者こそ、われは婆羅門と宣言するなり。
