彼に、かの世尊（ブァガヴァント）に、応供（アラハント）に、正等覚者（サンマーサンブッダ）に、帰命したてまつる。
われは仏（ブッダ）を帰依処（サラナ）となす。
われは法（ダンマ）を帰依処となす。
われは僧伽（サンガ）を帰依処となす。
ふたたび、われは仏を帰依処となす。

Outside the walls they stand and wait, at the junctions and the crossroads. Returning to their former homes they wait beside the door posts. Thinking: “They gave to me, they did for me, they were my family, friend, comrade”,
壁の外に佇み、辻や四つ角に立ち尽くす。
かつて住み慣れた我が家へと帰り来ては、門の柱のかたわらに待ち続ける。
「かの人は我に施してくれた、我のために尽くしてくれた、我が親族（ñāti）、友（mitta）、朋輩（sakhā）であった」と、そう思いながら。
