If one were to treat oneself as one instructs another, the well-tamed indeed would tame: for the self, it seems, is hard to tame.
他者を教え諭す如く、己自身をも律するならば、よく調御(ちょうご)されたる者こそ、真に他を調御することができるであろう。そもそも自己(じこ)とは、調御しがたきものなのだから。
