1. Service Overview

AI Buddha Zen ("the App") is an AI-powered chat application that provides responses based on Buddhist scriptures. The App draws from a curated database of over 10,000 Buddhist scripture verses (gāthā) from the Pali Canon and Mahayana sutras.

2. Acceptance of Terms

By using the App, you agree to these Terms of Use and Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

3. Use of AI and Third-Party Services

3.1 AI-Generated Content

The App uses Anthropic's Claude AI to generate responses. AI responses may contain errors, inaccuracies, or misinterpretations. We strive for accuracy in scripture citations, but cannot guarantee completeness or correctness of all AI-generated content.

3.2 Data Sent to Third-Party AI

When you send a message or photo, the following data is transmitted to Anthropic's Claude AI via our server:

• Your text messages (questions and concerns)
• Your photos (for image-based Buddhist teaching responses)

This data is sent solely for the purpose of generating AI responses. We do not share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

4. User Conduct

You agree not to:

• Send content that is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, or hateful
• Send sexually explicit content
• Attempt to manipulate or override the AI's instructions
• Use the App for any purpose other than personal, non-commercial use
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, extract, or copy the scripture database

5. Free Usage and Limitations

The App is free to use with a daily conversation limit. The daily limit may change at our discretion. All scripture content is accessible to every user.

6. Privacy Policy

6.1 Data We Collect

• Device Identifier: An anonymous UUID generated on your device, stored in Keychain. This is not linked to your identity and is used solely to manage your usage limit and conversation history.
• Chat Messages: Your text messages and AI responses are stored on our server to provide conversation history.
• Photos: Images you send are processed by AI and stored on our server.
• Usage Data: Daily usage count, streak data, and mood records (if you choose to record them).

6.2 Data We Do NOT Collect

• Your name, email address, or phone number (unless voluntarily provided)
• Your location data
• Data from other apps on your device
• Advertising identifiers

6.3 How We Use Your Data

• To provide AI-generated Buddhist teachings in response to your questions
• To maintain your conversation history and usage streak
• To improve the quality of scripture matching and AI responses

6.4 Third-Party Data Sharing

Your messages and photos are sent to Anthropic (Claude AI) solely for generating responses. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any other third parties. We do not use your data for advertising or tracking purposes.

6.5 Data Retention and Deletion

You can delete all your data at any time from the Settings menu within the App. Upon deletion, all conversation history, profile data, and usage records associated with your device identifier will be permanently removed from our servers.

6.6 Data Security

All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Your device identifier is stored in iOS Keychain with device-only access. Server-side data is protected by standard security measures.

6.7 Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

Scripture data is sourced from SuttaCentral under CC0 (Public Domain) license. English translations are by Bhikkhu Sujato (suttas) and Bhikkhu Brahmali (Vinaya). The App's design, code, and AI prompt engineering are © 2026 VeritasChain Co., Ltd.

8. Limitation of Liability

The App is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any damages arising from your use of the App, including but not limited to reliance on AI-generated content. This App is not a substitute for professional religious, medical, legal, or financial advice.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. Material changes will be communicated through the App.

11. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Japan. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Tokyo District Court.
